IEC 61850 is the international standard that defines the hardware and communication requirements for all devices within substation automation. The IEC 61850 to Modbus TCP/IP gateway enables communication between the Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) on an IEC-61850 network and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) or Programmable Automation Controllers (PACs) on a Modbus TCP/IP network. The gateway supports IEC 61850 applications including substation automation, load shedding, and advanced SCADA data collection, and enables a SCADA control system on a Modbus TCP/IP network to collect, monitor, trend and control granular real-time data from IEC 61850 IEDs at the process level (such as relays and switch gears), the bay levels (such as protection equipment), and at the substation automation level (such as PLC/PACs & SCADA control system).
